New People with a New Identity: The way to bring glory to God is going to be fleshed out in the structures of culture and family life. It's important to let our salvation be fleshed out into every area of life. Do Good and Suffer for Doing Good.

Meant to Them:

- Strangers and Exiles who are citizens of Rome.

- Strangers and Exiles who are slaves.

- Strangers and Exiles who are wives.

- Strangers and Exiles who are husbands.

 

Means to Us:

- S&E who are Citizens of Rome

- Fight evil by doing good.

- S&E who are Household Slaves

- S&E who are Wives

- That God created women in His image and they have value in who they are and what they do.

- S&E who are Husbands - The point of the passage is not the fact that a woman is weaker, but rather how a husband treats his wife in any way that she is weaker.

 

Gospel Response:

- Do good.

- Push back against oppression locally and globally.

- What would Peter write to you and your family?

Haggai: Renewed People. God's people are renewed and challenged to live in a new way. God's promise leads to discipline leads to life.

 

To Them:

- God punished them in disobedience.

- God blessed them in obedience.

- God chose to work the blessing through Zerubbabel.

 

To Us:

- Discipline is good when its aim is life.

- We are blessed in Christ Jesus.

- Trust the plan.

 

Gospel Response:

- Believe: In every season, blessing is coming in Christ.

- Challenge: Don't get lazy while living now.

- Evaluate: Are you listening to God?

- Do: Promise of Freedom in God's presence which leads to discipline for complacency and latency which leads to life with God forever.

Haggai: Renewed Kingdom. The result of the return of the King and the renewed people is a renewed kingdom with the King reigning and fulfilling the Davidic promise. God has given us a warning before destruction.

- Moses and Noah experienced a warning on earth.

- God shook the earth multiple times.

- God promises to shake the earth and heavens.

- An eternal promise in heaven for a temporal challenge on earth.

Gospel Response: Refocuses our lives around an eternal perspective that transforms our temporal lives.

- Believe the Warnings

- Add Reverence and Awe to your Contentment
