Rebuilding What’s Broken 🔥Your chaos might be God’s canvas. 🎨 Nehemiah 2:1–8 reminds us that what looks like disorder in our lives can become the setting for God’s greatest work. Like Nehemiah before King Artaxerxes, we’re called to:
🙏 Prepare through prayer.
📖 Plan with wisdom.
⚔️ Take bold risks in faith.
💬 Trust that God can turn our fear into faith and our chaos into something beautiful.
Even in the presence of a secular king, Nehemiah prayed first—and God’s gracious hand was on him.
Gospel Response: Are you ready for the moment God might use to turn your chaos into His canvas?
📖 “The king granted my requests, for the gracious hand of my God was on me.” — Nehemiah 2:8 (CSB)

Rebuilding What’s Broken 🧱 When life is falling apart, God is the one who restores. This week we began our new series in Nehemiah 1, learning that:
👉 Mourning isn’t weakness—it’s recognizing God’s strength.
👉 Fasting declares that this world can’t satisfy—only God can.
👉 Prayer is how we rebuild what sin and suffering have torn down.
Nehemiah shows us that when walls crumble, families fracture, and hope fades—we run first to the God who restores.
Gospel Response: Where do you go when everything seems to be falling apart? Will you mourn, fast, and pray—trusting the God who rebuilds?

We’ve journeyed through Romans and seen this truth: God is righteous, we are sinful, and yet through Christ we are declared righteous. Paul closes the letter the same way he opened it—centered on the gospel. Where are you placing your strength—in the world, or in the gospel of Jesus Christ?
📖 The gospel strengthens us (Romans 16:25).
📖 The gospel fulfills the Scriptures (16:26).
📖 The gospel unites Jew and Gentile in faith (16:26).
📖 The gospel gives all glory to God (16:27).
Romans reminds us that salvation isn’t about our strength, works, or identity—it’s about Jesus Christ, who chose us, died for us, and now fills us with His Spirit. To Him be the glory forever! 🙌
Gospel Response:
Where are you looking for strength?
Are you united with others in the gospel?
Does your obedience point people to Christ?
📖 Because in the end, “To the only wise God, through Jesus Christ—to Him be the glory forever!” (Romans 16:27).

As Paul closes his letter (Romans 16:1–23), he reminds us that the gospel unites people from every background—men and women, rich and poor, Jews and Gentiles, political leaders and slaves. Phoebe carried the letter. Priscilla and Aquila risked their lives. Junia proclaimed Christ boldly. Ordinary people, united by faith, made an eternal impact. Who are you encouraging, praying for, or partnering with in the Gospel?
The call is the same for us today:
➡️ Know and disciple one another.
➡️ Encourage and stand with one another.
➡️ Stay united in Christ, even in a divided world.
Gospel Response: God’s mission is not a solo effort. Like the early church, we’re called to stand side by side—using our gifts, honoring one another, and working together for His glory. Will you stand firm, live boldly, and let the gospel shine wherever you go?

Ep 237 - PODCAST - Sabbatical Reflections
Tuesday Sep 16, 2025
Tuesday Sep 16, 2025
🎙️ Podcast: Sabbatical Reflections
The Biblical Meaning of Sabbatical: Rooted in the Sabbath principle: God created all of creation to need rest (fields, crops, humans).
👉 Scripture shows that without rest, land and people become barren or unfruitful.
👉Rest is God’s design—not weakness but a gift for renewal.
👉 Sabbatical is like an extended Sabbath: physical, mental, and spiritual restoration.
The Church’s Role:
⛪ Sabbatical was encouraged by Matt’s pastoral team, not forced as a “fix.”
⛪ WBC showed overwhelming love, support, and no jealousy.
⛪ The church saw it as an investment in Matt’s health and shepherding.
⛪ Rest led to physical healing (autoimmune exhaustion symptoms disappeared).
Three Key Takeaways:
Affirmation of Calling
1. Matt wrestled with insecurity about leadership and adequacy.
2. God reaffirmed his pastoral calling and clarified his gifts.
3. Came back energized, focused, and confident to lead WBC.
🕰️ True rest doesn’t come from vacations, money, or pleasures of the world—true rest comes from being with the Lord. Sabbatical provided tools and spiritual disciplines to thrive, not just survive.
🕰️ Challenge: fight for rhythms of rest, renewal, and time with God and family.
🕰️ Sabbatical is not just time off—it is a God-given rhythm of affirmation, transformation, and restoration that allows leaders and believers alike to live from rest in Christ, not for rest.

A call to follow Christ is a call to mobilize. ➡️ Remember that wherever you go, the gospel should be there. Where is God calling you to join in His mission—through prayer, giving, or going?
Paul challenges the church to:
➡️ Disciple those inside the church.
➡️ Share the gospel with those outside.
➡️ Support the mission through giving, encouraging, and praying.
📖 “My aim is to preach the gospel where Christ has not been named.” — Romans 15:20 (CSB)
💬 Gospel Response: Like Paul, we’re called to live sent. Whether across the street or across the world, let’s be faithful to make Christ known. What role is God calling you to in His mission? Are you going, giving, encouraging, or praying?
🌍 Together, we carry the gospel here in Carroll County and to the ends of the earth.

“Unity in the Community” Will you choose love over your freedom? 🤔 Paul calls us to lay down our freedoms for the sake of others. The kingdom of God isn’t about eating and drinking—it’s about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. If Christ loved your brother or sister enough to die for them, will you love them enough to limit your liberty for their good?
Gospel Response:
👉 Don’t judge—keep your eyes on Christ.
👉 Don’t be a stumbling block—walk in love.
👉 Bear one another’s burdens—build each other up.
📖 “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” —Romans 15:13

“Unity in the Midst of Differences” 🤝 Do you let non-essential issues divide your relationships? Are you judging others instead of welcoming them? Are your eyes fixed on Christ and His eternal kingdom? The Roman church wrestled with disputes over food, days, and practices. Paul reminds them (and us) that these non-essentials should never divide the body of Christ.
Gospel Response: What matters most?
👉 Welcome one another in love.
👉 Stay curious, not judgmental.
👉 Keep your eyes on Christ, who unites us by His cross.
📖 "For none of us lives for himself, and no one dies for himself. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord." —Romans 14:7–8 (CSB)

Are you living as if the night still defines you—or are you walking in the light of Christ’s return? 🌅 “Wake Up and Put On Christ” 🌅 Paul reminds us that the night is nearly over, and the day is near. As followers of Jesus, we aren’t called to drift through life in darkness but to wake up, cast off sin, and clothe ourselves with Christ. ✨ Let’s be a people ready for His return, walking not in fear or compromise, but in the armor of light.
Gospel Response:
👉 Wake up and see the times clearly.
👉 Cast off the deeds of darkness.
👉 Put on the Lord Jesus Christ and live in His light.

What does it really look like to love our neighbor in light of Christ’s return? In Romans 13:8–10, Paul calls believers to owe nothing but love—a love that goes beyond obligation and reflects the heart of Christ. This kind of love isn't passive; it's active, sacrificial, and central to fulfilling God’s law.
What does love look like in action? Not passive. Not selective. Radical love—the kind that fulfills the law, reflects Jesus, and refuses to repay evil for evil.
💥 This love:
✔ Disarms hate
✔ Dismantles pride
✔ Points enemies to Christ
🕊️ In a world full of division, we owe only one debt: love.
We are reminded that this love ethic is not rooted in worldly definitions but in Jesus’ example—love that is patient, kind, and merciful, even to those who oppose or inconvenience us. As we live in the tension of the “already but not yet,” awaiting Christ’s return, we are to live daily with urgency and compassion, embodying a love that points to God’s kingdom.
Loving our neighbor is not abstract. It’s intentional—loving the person who cuts us off, the one we disagree with, the hurting, the overlooked. It’s the mark of a true Christian and the testimony the world needs. As Francis Schaeffer wrote, “The church must be a loving church in a dying culture.”
Gospel Response: If Jesus fulfilled the law by loving us completely, how can we reflect His love today—by showing mercy, extending grace, and loving others the way He loved us?
📖 “Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Love, therefore, is the fulfillment of the law.” —Romans 13:10 (CSB)
