Do you carry a burden in your heart for those who are far from Christ, and do you believe God is still faithful to save them? Be zealous for the salvation of others. In Romans 9:1–5, Paul expresses deep sorrow and unceasing anguish over his fellow Israelites who have rejected Christ. Though they had every spiritual advantage—adoption, covenants, the law, temple worship, and even the lineage of the Messiah—they still missed Jesus. Paul’s grief is not theological detachment but heartfelt desperation. He even says he would give up his own salvation if it meant his people would be saved. His anguish stems from the eternal reality that those apart from Christ are separated from God. Yet, he affirms that Christ—who came in the flesh and is God over all—is the only hope.

Gospel Response: We are reminded that only Jesus, not Paul or Moses, could bear the weight of salvation. Jesus alone lived, died, and rose again so that we—regardless of our background—might be reconciled to God. Like Paul, we are called to have a zealous, gospel-driven love for the lost. Our burden for others must compel us to live and speak with urgency, trusting not in ourselves but in the faithfulness and sovereignty of God to save.

- Do you long for those who are far from Christ to come near?

- Do you believe God is faithful and able to save them?

- Do you feel the weight of their eternal separation without Him?

Let that burden shape your life, your prayers, and your witness—because Jesus is Lord over all, and He alone saves.
